Why do Americans say to British people you would be speaking Germans if it had not been for us?

They do realise that the British paid for all the equipment they sent over (finished paying in 2006 with interest added)? They do realise that Germany along with her allies tried to invade Britain before Russia and America were in the War, it is called the battle of Britain, the defining moment in the War. Germany could not beat the spitfire and Britain also had a secret weapon radar, Hitler knew without air superiority there was no way him and his allies would stand a chance against the British navy the best in the World. The American soldiers that fought only started fighting when their country was dragged into the War. So please show some consideration for all the British service men who died and stop taking their glory by saying you saved us when we all know it was the brave men of the royal air force that did.
