My dog is scared of beeping noises?

My oh my.. my little tiny mutt is a spitfire who will bark at anything including thunder.. but if a beeping noise is heard she cowers and runs to mommy (me) for security. My beagle could not care less about beeps (she's terrified of thunder though). Is it just common that some dogs are scared of certain sounds?
